HUMBOLDT 鈥� It was a young but capable team the Humboldt Broncos celebrated at their awards night for their 50th year.
鈥淵ou were too young, too inexperienced to make the playoffs, they said. Well, you proved them wrong,鈥� said Jamie Brockman, the team鈥檚 president.
There were 20 trophies given at the March 13 supper. Logan Foster received the Most Valuable Player.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a huge honour,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 really do anything but thank my teammates. I know I had a pretty good season point wise but it's the hard work of my teammates and my coaches. It's a team game.鈥�
Foster, who鈥檚 graduating from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this year, said he was happy with how the year went.
鈥淚 think it went pretty well for how young we were. Obviously the playoff result wasn鈥檛 what we wanted but we worked really hard,鈥� he said, 鈥淚 think it was a pretty successful year.鈥�
Foster also got the Top Scorer award and the Three Star award for home games.
Graysen Cameron, the team captain, received a Passion for the Game award.
鈥淚t was a huge honour coming in this year and getting the opportunity to be the captain of this great organization. [Head coach Scott] Barney made that transition really easy for me and I had some great leadership in the past to learn from.鈥�
Cameron, who鈥檚 also graduating from the SJHL, said this year was one of the best of his life.
鈥淢oving forward here, you guys got a great core group here,鈥� he said. 鈥淎ll you guys are around the same age and moving forward, you guys are all leaders. I wouldn't be able to be where I am today without the help of you guys.鈥�
Barney told the players they made this season one of the most enjoyable years of his life.
鈥淚t's not only about the hockey. I hope I influenced you guys as much as you have all had influence on me,鈥� he said. 鈥淵ou have formed a bond, a bond that nobody will ever be able to take away from you.鈥�
All of the speakers at the awards night acknowledged the coaches, players, volunteers and fans.
鈥淚 just want to thank the fans for coming out to all the games and all the parents and billets and everyone involved in our organization,鈥� Foster said. 鈥淚t means a lot to me and our whole team.鈥�
