Call it luck, call it home course advantage, call it whatever you want, as long as you call the North Battleford Comprehensive High School boys' golf team district champs.
Tuesday, the weather held up and 31 boys and nine girls hit the links at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club and competed for a chance to advance to provincials.
The NBCHS team consisted of Tyler Wilson, Troy Wakelin, Troy Tyndall and Hayden Friedrich. All will advance to provincials after winning the district team medals.
Three of the four NBCHS golfers were dual medal winners, as they also finished in the top three. In first was Wilson with a score of 80. Wakelin and Tyndall both shot 84, but after retrogression, Wakelin took second and Tyndall was third.
Fourth on the boys' side went to Brandon Gregoire of North Battleford John Paul II. Gregoire and Justin Wood of Unity tied at 56, but it was Gregoire taking forth place on another count back.
On the girls' side it was McLurg High School in Wilkie winning the team category. McLurg's team included Janel Miller, Chantel Johnson, Jill Gruber and Kerstin Jensen.
The top overall winner on the girls' side was Janay Leniuk from John Paul II with a 119. Johnson was second with a 132 and Miller and Gruber finished with 136s with Miller taking third after retrogression.
Next for the golfers will be provincials in Humboldt Sept. 24 and 25.
At the Battle West district Golf Tournament, golfers from NBCHS, JP II, McLurg, Unity, Sakawew in North Battleford, Kerrobert, Cut Knife, Poundmaker, Medstead and Spiritwood competed.
Although there were some obvious nerves exhibited by the high school golfers, overall it was a strong tournament and great experience for the athletes.
