There's ice all around the Humboldt region, but it was the ice inside a particular building that was the focus of attention on the weekend.
The Horizon Central Athletic Association (HCAA) held its 2011 Senior Curling District Championship in Humboldt February 11-12.
Teams from Lanigan, Foam Lake, Cudworth, Strasbourg, Watrous, Humboldt, Muenster, LeRoy, Wakaw, Ituna, and Raymore competed in boys', girls', and mixed categories.
The top two teams in each category advance to Regionals on February 18-19.
Boys
In the A event, Foam Lake defeated Cudworth and Strasbourg defeated Watrous in the first games. Foam Lake then defeated Lanigan and Humboldt beat Strasbourg in the next games.
In the A event final, Humboldt beat Foam Lake to advance to Regionals in Churchbridge.
On the B side, Strasbourg beat Cudworth and Lanigan defeated Cudworth in the first round.
Foam Lake then defeated Strasbourg in the B event final. Foam Lake also advances to the Regional bonspiel in Churchbridge.
Girls
On the A side, LeRoy defeated Muenster, Watrous beat Humboldt, and Ituna defeated Wakaw in the first round.
In the second round, Watrous defeated LeRoy, while Raymore beat Ituna.
Watrous defeated Raymore in the A event final, advancing to Regionals in Sturgis.
In the B event, Muenster defeated Humboldt, then lost to Ituna, while Wakaw defeated LeRoy. Wakaw then beat Ituna to face Raymore in the B final.
Raymore won that match-up, defeating Wakaw. Raymore also advances to Regionals in Sturgis.
Mixed
In the A event, Ituna 2 defeated Raymore and Strasbourg beat Ituna 1 in the first round of games.
Ituna 2 came out on top in the A final, defeating Strasbourg.
On the B side, Ituna 1 defeated Raymore to advance to the B final.
Ituna 1 beat Strasbourg in the final, to win the B event.
Both Ituna 1 and Ituna 1 advanced to Regionals in Norquay.
