The NSRBL baseball season made it to week three this week, and already there are a few teams standing out at the top of the standings — and a few that are not.
Following this weekend’s play, the Kindersley Stallions had the most wins so far, with a 4-1 record. Meanwhile, three teams had three wins apiece: Standard Hill had a perfect 3-0 record, Border City had a 3-1 record and Unity Junior Cardinals had three wins and three losses.
Border City got to its third win with a victory Monday night over Unity by a 6–2 final score.
At the other end, the North Battleford Beavers and Mervin Flyers were each 1-3 following the weekend, while the St. Walburg Reds were running dead last at 0-5.
On the stats sheet, Brock Harrison of Standard Hill led the way in batting in the early going with a .667 average in three games, just ahead of Mervin’s Ryland McNinch at .636. Unity Jr. Cardinals’ Tanner Huber led the way in pitching with a 0.62 ERA in two games.
In notable contests over the past week, the Beavers lost 7-6 to Macklin on June 15, and then hammered Meadow Lake 12-9 on June 17 for their first win of the season. Meanwhile the Battlefords Trappers lost to Unity 1-0 on June 16 but rebounded with a 6-0 win over Wilkie June 18. The Trappers stood at 2-2 going into this week’s play.
The Trappers were set to play in Standard Hill Thursday while the Beavers were in Unity versus the Jr. Cardinals. The Beavers host Wilkie Friday night.
