It was the first tournament of the season at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club and by the scorecards turned in, it already looks as though the golfers are in mid-season form.
The championship team of Vaughn Fauth, Al Bahrey, Barry Verhoeven, Dale Cain, Bryan Peever and Kim Fisher led the field after day one and didn't relinquish that lead Sunday.
Teams for the annual spring scramble were announced Thursday and on the men's side 16 teams of six, for a total of 96 golfers, took to the course for the two-day tournament.
Saturday, the winning team finished with a 55, 17 strokes under par. Sunday, they shot a 57 and won the tournament by three strokes.
In second place with a score of 115 was the team of Tim Sletten, Lee Ulmer, Pat Delainey, Brennan Radchenko, Glen Hornick and Henry Simonar.
In third place with a score of 116 were Rob Cook, Dan Sankey, Garry Nelson, Lyle Kennedy, Joe Kramm and Bernie Levasseur.
Fourth place went to the team of Dennis Denton, Mac Sisouvong, Bob Johnston, Bob Timmerman, Dave McMoil and Ed Scotton with a 117.
Seventeen ladies also took to the course with the group of Rhonda Seidel, Melanie Bohun, Donna Weber, Paula Ashe and Marilyn Simonar winning with 144. One stroke back was the team of Paula Scherr, Pat Steirt, Sandra Aubichon and Judy Jamieson.
The final two ladies teams finished with scores of 147 and 148.
Although the weather was predicted not to be too nice for the weekend and may have slightly effected the turnout, Dana Johnson, director of golf at North Battleford Golf and Country Club, said the weekend tournament went really well, the attendance was good and the course was fully operational.
By next week, Johnson is hopeful those using the driving range will be able to use the tee off boxes, which are the last part of the course to be ready for full-time use.
