For the past month, news from the Battlefords North Stars office has been quiet, but that changed Monday when it was announced graduating forward Mitch Galbraith had committed to a Canadian university for the next hockey season.
Galbraith, who played just 27 games with the North Stars, intends to play with the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary. The Cougars are the defending Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference champions. In the team's 41 years of existence they have won the ACAC title 12 times.
Galbraith will join his brother Eric in Mount Royal. Eric, who is two-years older than Mitch, has played two season with the Cougars. Before that, he played in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Quesnel Millionaires and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
Mitch, the Quesnel, B.C. native, had 13 points and 31 penalty minutes since joining the North Stars in December trade with the Thunder Bay North Stars of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Mitch also spent three seasons in the BCHL playing 105 games with Quesnel.
Galbraith became the fifth 2010-11 North Stars graduate to commit to a Canadian school following the season. Cody Folstad and Kyle Birch committed to Portage College, Tony Oak committed to Simon Fraser University and Cris Neurauter committed to SAIT, which lost in game five of the ACAC championship to Galbraith's new team - Mount Royal.
