It isn't over yet, but the St. Walburg Eagles have the Edam 3-Stars right were they want them in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League championship series.
Game one Friday was played in St. Walburg and the Eagles road a hot goalie in Bryan Bridges to a 6-2 win.
First period goals, by Aaron Goldade and Shane Williamson had the Eagles in front and they didn't look back. Jordan Fuder, Shayne Fenton, Goldade and Taylor Thiessen scored later in the game for the Eagles.
The Edam offence came from Brody Roach and Ryan Roach in the third period, but the comeback attempt fell short, as the St. Walburg handed Edam their first loss of the playoffs.
Sunday in Edam, a breakout of second period offence from the Eagles was the difference, as they earned a 4-2 win in a high intensity game with 74 penalty minutes issued and two game misconducts for a fight.
St. Walburg had another balanced team effort supplying the offence. Mark Persick, Williamson, Fuder and Kevin Nasby scored for the Eagles. For Edam, the offence came from Martin Smith and Jordan Blaquiere.
The goalie matchup between Bridges and Quinton Gautheir, one of the most anticipated matchups of the series, didn't disappoint after two games, but the edge has to go to Bridges for the two wins.
St. Walburg took complete control of the series with a 4-1 win Wednesday in St. Walburg. Nasby scored a powerplay goal in the first to put the Eagles in front. The Eagles beat Gauthier twice in the second, as it was Sheldon Williamson scoring and shortly after Fuder netted an insurance goal.
Joel Blaquiere scored on and Edam powerplay in the second and the scored was 3-1 after two periods.
Shane Williamson capped off the game with a goal in the third period for the Eagles and they took a 3-0 series lead.
Game four of the series goes Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Edam, weather permitting, or Turtleford.
If game five is needed it will be played in St. Walburg Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
