NORTH BATTLEFORD - This weekend, Twin Rivers Curling Club will host the 2021 CurlSask Curling Club Championships (Replay) presented by G-Mac’s Ag Team.
According to their news release, the event takes place Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, and will feature participants that were pre-qualified from the 2020 playdowns that were postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Winners go on to National Championship, Nov. 28 – Dec. 4, 2021, in Ottawa.
The Club Championship is described as an event giving grassroots curlers a chance to compete for a national title. It targets grassroot to semi-competitive athletes, with a requirement that these curlers play at a club level regularly.
Twin Rivers club states they has both Men’s and Women’s teams competing, having earned the right in 2020. On the men’s side Cole Tenetuik, having freshly won the 2021 Provincial Mixed Championship (Replay), will skip a team comprised of Brad Wuitchik, Lindsay Holm and Doug Flasch.
On the women’s side Kristi Frolek will skip a team with Nicole Beausoleil, Carey Hirschfeld and Christy Walker. Frolek, Beausoleil and Walker had represented Saskatchewan in the 2017 National Championship in Kingston.
The curling club states other notable participants include 2021 Provincial Mixed Champion(Replay) Dean Grindheim; 2018 Provincial Club Champions Elaine Robson, Candace Newkirk, Malysha Johnstone and Sheri Logan; 2018 Mixed Champion Robyn Despins; 2015 U18 Juvenile Open Champion Desiree Beaulieu; 2015 Club Champions Shane Vollman, Kevin Fetsch, Garry Janz and Bob Sonder and 2013 Club Champion Samantha Yachiw.
Draws begin Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. at Northland Power Curling Centre, and continue at 1:30, 5 p.m.and 8:30 pm. Saturday sees draws at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m.. and 8:30 pm. Sunday draws are 10 a.m., 2 p.m.and 7 pm. Action wraps up with the final playoff draws at 10 am and 2 pm Monday, Nov. 1.
There is no admission charge, but as per CurlSask event policy, those attending the Northland Power Curling Centre must show proof of vaccination with ID.
