NORTH BATTLEFORD - The Battlefords AAA Stars have had some mixed results since hitting the ice for their U18 campaign.
So far the team has been off to a 2-4 start to the season. They have now dropped four in a row, and look to right the ship on the road with a heavy stretch of games away from the Access Communications Centre.
This weekend the Stars head down to Swift Current for two games versus the Swift Current Legionnaires.
The games are Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Credit Union iPlex in Swift Current. The road schedule continues Oct. 23 and 24 at Notre Dame and then Oct. 30 and 31 in Moose Jaw.
Ultimately the Stars have to be happy to be playing games anywhere, after losing all of last season to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their preseason game on Sept. 15 against the Saskatoon Blazers at Access Communications Centre proved to be a big event for local fans happy to see big-time hockey back live again in the Battlefords after several months, even though the final score was a disappointing 4-0 loss.
The regular season got started for the Stars on Sept. 23 in Yorkton against the Maulers. The game went to a shootout, with Jakin Lawrence getting the goal to put the Battlefords in the win column for a 2-1 final score.
The game Sept. 25, also at Westland Arena, saw the Stars win again 4-2. It was Rylan Williams getting two goals in the win.
Since then the Stars have been in a slump, starting with a 6-2 loss to the Saskatoon Blazers on Sept. 29 at home.
On Oct. 2 they dropped a home game to Notre Dame 6-3 and then they lost the following day at home to Warman 1-0 on a 22-save shutout by Luke Brunen.
The Stars’ most recent game was Wednesday night at home as they dropped a 5-0 game to the Saskatoon Contacts, with Chase Wutzke stopping 37 shots.
