The week started off well for Jim Johnston and his curling team from the Battlefords at the Provincial Masters Men's Championship in Gravelbourg.
Johnston won twice Wednesday, as his team edged Derrell Sears 6-5 and Gary Bryden 7-3.
Thursday, Johnston and his teammates: Don Christopher, Roger Cameron and Keith Bell, beat Brian Waldbauer 7-2 to keep a perfect record.
Friday in the 9 a.m. draw, Johnston was beat 7-4 by the Eugene Hritzuk rink.
Later Friday, Johnston rebounded with an 8-2 win over Cliff Grambo and finished second in his pool with a 4-1 record in round robin play.
Saturday in a qualifier match, Johnston was defeated by Darrell Bonenfant and was eliminated from the championship.
Bonenfant went on to beat Hritzuk in the semi final, but lost to Art Assman in the championship event.
The women's masters were also underway last week, but there were no local teams competing in Wadena this season.
On the Saskatchewan Curling schedule this week are the Dominion men's and women's provincial championships
