The Battlefords Beaver Blues appear to have enough interest along with three other teams from the surrounding area to start a new senior hockey league.

The Beaver Blues, along with Maymont, Radisson and Saulteaux are the four founding teams of the new Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League.

The league is designed for the players to play senior hockey with minimal travel and balanced teams, which used local players to ice a team. The calibre of the league will likely fall somewhere between the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League, which Maymont played in last season, and the Beaver Lakes Hockey League.

Maymont may be changing their name form the Blues to the Fighting Saints while Radisson will carry the title of the Wheat Kings and Saulteaux the 3 Stars.

The Beaver Blues are holding tryouts Oct. 29 and Nov. 6 and will be playing out of their old home, the Battleford Arena.

Although there were rumours others teams would be interested in the league, it is confirmed that these are the four teams which will play the 2010-11 season. The plan is for each team to play 18 games, nine home and nine away with six against each team and playoffs to follow.

There will be more coverage on the new league in the Regional Optimist, as the season grows closer.
