Baseball Sask wins national award for the tenth time

Province of the Year was awarded to Baseball Sask at the 2024 Baseball Canada Awards 小蓝视频.

UNITY – Baseball Sask has hit it out of the park once again, earning the Province of the Year award during the 2024 Baseball Canada Awards 小蓝视频 Nov. 9.

Representing the organization at the 小蓝视频 was Regan L’Heureux, president, Mike Ramage, executive director, and Scott Mills, provincial umpire supervisor. This is the 10th time Baseball Sask has received this award.

For L’Heureux, winning this award reflects a collective effort of the players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and administrators. The organization scored top marks in the Governance, Coach and Umpire Development categories while also ranking high in Program Delivery and Membership, showing off the strength of the programs within the province.

“Highlights like placing athletes on national teams and achieving silver at the Baseball Canada National Championships further showcases the talent and dedication within Saskatchewan,” said L’Heureux.

One of Baseball Sask’s biggest strengths is emphasizing inclusivity and contributions from communities of all sizes, he said.

“We focus on high-quality coaching and umpire development, supported by consistent governance, allowing us to deliver strong programs across urban and rural areas alike,” added L’Heureux.

While the organization is proud of their achievements, they know learning from other provinces is essential. Initiatives such as adding digital tools for virtual coaching and umpire training could enhance accessibility and skill development in the future.

As Baseball Sask looks to the future, L’Heureux said growing the female baseball program is at the top of mind, given its rapid annual growth with players, coaches and umpires.

“Enhancing pathways for female athletes to advance in competition and fostering mentorship opportunities can create lasting impacts,” said L’Heureux.

L’Heureux added other areas of growth for the organization will also include continued support for umpires and increased investment in grassroots developments.

“Providing additional tools, training resources and funding can help elevate player and umpire development, while attracting new participants and ensuring accessibility for all players. Building on these areas will strengthen Saskatchewan’s baseball community as a whole.”
