NORTH BATTLEFORD - No sooner did North Battleford’s Andrew Albers get sent down to the minors that he was called back up again.
An injury to right-handed pitcher Randy Dobnak had left the Minnesota Twins short-staffed and in need of a pitcher. On less than 24 hours notice and with just four days rest, Albers was called up by the Twins and started in Cleveland against the Indians last Thursday.
In that game Albers pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs, six hits, two strikeouts and one base on balls, as the Indians went on to a 4-1 win. Albers gave up two home runs in the game.
It was an unexpected return to the majors for Albers after he was shelled for nine runs against Tampa Bay the previous week. Albers had been optioned back to the Twins’ AAA farm club, the St. Paul Saints, after that game and was preparing for a Saturday start with the Saints when he got the major-league call.
Unfortunately, this was only a brief return to the majors for Albers. This weekend the Twins announced that lefty Jovani Moran has been recalled from Class AAA St. Paul, and Albers has been optioned back to the Saints.
