Special constables from the City of North Battleford say they are investigating two animal attacks on the weekend, with one dog fatally injured during one of the attacks.
According to a news release Monday afternoon, a two-year-old chihuahua died at the scene of a dog-on-dog attack on Asquith Avenue on Sunday. The incident happened around 10:15 a.m., according to the City.
North Battleford City Bylaw responded to the scene of the incident. They continue to investigate and say charges are pending.
Special constables also responded to another attack on the 1600 block of 91st Street, this one involving an attack between a dog and a cat. The owner of the cat became involved midway through the attack and ended up with injuries to his head and face that required 12 stitches.
Bylaw officers say they are investigating that incident and charges are also pending.
In the wake of these two incidents, North Battleford special constables are asking pet owners to ensure their animals are not running at large within the city limits, and to make sure pets are controlled at all times when out walking.
