VISCOUNT — The Horizon School Division is reviewing tender applications for the replacement of three rooftop climate control units at Viscount School.
Kevin Garinger, the Horizon School Division’s director of education, said similar roof top units typically have the lifespan of 20 to 25 years.
“We certainly hope it will last for the life of the school, and yet we recognize that’s not always obtainable where we live in this province where we can go from, as we recently did, -45°C with a wind-chill to zero almost overnight,” Garinger said. “Wouldn’t trade it for the world, but at the same time recognize it’s hard on some of our equipment.”
The scope of the work includes replacing existing units with Trane SXHLF20 units; replacing and upgrading to gas fired units SFHLF20; include natural gas piping, piping supports, painting of natural gas piping; associated labour for installation; and electrical upgrades and connection.
The contractor was obligated to indicate a potential schedule and ability to work while school is occupied, availability for weekend and evenings is an option.
“With some of our challenges in getting some of these pieces of equipment we’ve had to tender them and make sure we have them in place to repair roofs and do what we need to do to keep our schools in good shape, which is obviously a major focus for our board and for our office.”
