HUMBOLDT — In lieu of any gatherings, the City of Humboldt will mark the second anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos bus collision with a virtual tribute on its website.
The tribute to remember the April 6, 2018 collision will be found at and will have photos and video clips that will remind people of what happened and how everyone came together to support one another. It will be released on Monday, April 6 at noon.
The original plan, before the pandemic placed restrictions on gatherings, was to create a temporary special exhibit comprised of a representation of the many creative and unique memorabilia items the city received in the days, weeks and months that followed the tragedy.
“In the midst of all the turmoil in the present world we want to make sure the lives lost and those that were changed forever two years ago are not forgotten,” said Rob Muench, Humboldt’s mayor, in a media release.
“During this time of self-isolating and practicing physical distancing, it’s important to us that people still have a place to go to reflect and remember the tragedy and the outpouring of support that our community received on a global scale.”
There will also be an online guestbook on the site for visitors to sign.
Monday, April 6 has been declared 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Day by the city. The St. Augustine Catholic Church in Humboldt will toll their bells that day at approximately 4:50 p.m. in recognition of the approximate date and time the tragedy occurred two years ago. The city plans to capture that event with a live video feed on their .
After those bells ring, there will be a moment of silence that the city encourages all citizens to observe, no matter where they may be.
