If you have access to a videocamera and a little creativity, the Lakeland Library Region wants to see what you can do.

The 10th Original Flick Fest is looking for submissions of short films with a maximum length of 15 minutes from anyone residing in the Lakeland Library Region.

"They could be a story or a little drama or animation," said Linda Peterson, program co-ordinator. "It's really open as to what the content is."

The films, accepted in DVD or VHS format, must be handed in to the North Battleford by April 21 at noon.

There is no fee to enter, but all content must be original and contain no copyright material, unless written permission is given. However, up to 30 seconds of a copyright song for introduction or ending purposes is allowed, explained Peterson.

The submissions will be shown during a public screening at the library, May 12 at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.

"Every year we have some good quality ones," said Peterson. "The variety is really what makes it interesting."

There are two main prizes: Panel's Choice and People's Choice.

A panel of judges, comprised of representatives from the Battlefords Allied Arts Council, the North Battleford Library Board and the Chapel Gallery, will vote for their favourite, with the film receiving the most votes awarded the Panel's Choice.

Anyone present at the public screenings will also be allowed to vote for their favourite and the film with the most votes will be awarded the People's Choice.

For the first eight years of the Flick Fest, only one Panel's and People's Choice was awarded, but last year, a second in each category was added.

"Because we had such an overwhelming response last year, we divided it into youth and adult," said Peterson.

The same will happen this year, providing there are enough submissions, so grab your videocamera and get rolling!
