Battlefords Interval House, the shelter for women and children fleeing violence, is celebrating 30 years of operation in the community with a special celebration in October.

Interval House officials recently announced a banquet of celebration will be held Oct. 18th and will feature guest speaker Tanya Brown, youngest sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson. Nicole Brown Simpson, murdered in 1994, was an ex-wife of former football and movie star O.J. Simpson.

Honouring Nicole's memory, her family founded The Nicole Brown Foundation, which is dedicated to educating communities on strategies for domestic violence prevention. Brown travels across the country speaking and advocating to community groups, colleges, nonprofits and shelters, providing awareness and assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Brown has been recognized on CNN's Larry King Live, Inside Edition, The Insider with Kris Jenner-Kardashian, Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer and The Early Show with Harry Smith.

Interval House board chairman Cheryl Cook-Taylor says only 250 tickets are available for the event and she anticipates a sell-out.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to attract such a high profile speaker and believe her message will be powerful and very worthwhile."

Although Interval House was actually founded April of 1980, Cook-Taylor says Oct. 18 was selected as a day to celebrate because this is National Person's Day, the day women were officially recognized as "persons."

The event, says Cook-Taylor, would not be possible without the generous support of numerous community sponsors.

"We are extremely grateful for the support received from numerous community businesses. Their generosity is overwhelming and we are very appreciative of this support," she says.

The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Western Development Museum. MC will be Jay Crockett of Innovation Credit Union. Musical entertainment will be provided by Brendan Legario.
