There was a little less conversation and little more fundraising action at the North Battleford Legion Feb. 14, when Elvis made an appearance for a Canadian Cancer Society Fundraiser.
Elvis impersonator Jeff Bodner, a B.C. RCMP member who was at one time stationed in the Battlefords, donned his white jump suit, replete with tassels and faux rhinestones, to deliver an amusing performance to the 150 people gathered there for the evening.
Between hopping on men's laps and serenading women up close and personal, Bodner gyrated his hips to such numbers as Suspicious Minds.
Besides Bodner, local musicians, such as Raquel Lehman and Bill Edlin, entertained the crowd. Rick Hiebert donated his time as sound person.
The fundraiser was organized by Orange on Patrol, the Battlefords' Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life team.
Glenda Woodrow, Relay for Life committee member, said this and other fundraisers are ways they can chip in for the Relay for Life fundraiser.
"We thought that if we're organizing it, we should have a team and raise money also," said Woodrow.
The evening featured a silent auction, raffle prizes and, of course, musical entertainment. Legion member Lisa Wallin also offered to donate six inches of her long hair to Locks of Love, an organization that makes wigs out of donated hair for cancer patients, provided everyone in attendance donated $5.
It seems the crowd thought Wallin needed a haircut, since a total of $766.83 was given, slightly over the $750 required.
Just under $5,000 was raised, although the final tally is yet to come in. The proceeds will be officially presented to the Canadian Cancer Society during the Relay for Life event, which will take place June 10 at the Civic Centre.
