RED EARTH CREE NATION — Update Dec. 3: As a result of continued investigation, Daven Head, 20, of Red Earth Cree Nation is charged with one count of second-degree murder, section 235(1) of the Criminal Code, in relation to the death of 29-year-old Sean McKay.
Head is also charged with one count of aggravated assault, section 268 of the Criminal Code of a second adult male in relation to the same investigation and one count of failure to comply with an undertaking, section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Background Dec. 1: Police are investigating a suspicious death at Red Earth Cree Nation that happened early Tuesday morning.
The investigation involves the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit, with the assistance of Carrot River RCMP and Nipawin RCMP Detachments, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
Police said the Carrot River RCMP responded to a report of an altercation at a Red Earth Cree Nation home at around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 30. One adult male died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and no charges have been laid, police said. They added that there will continue to be an increased police presence in the community as part of the investigation.
