THE BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP are crediting tips from the public in the recent arrests of two men wanted on numerous warrants.
“This is an excellent example of community-police collaboration,” says Sgt. Adam Buckingham of the Battleford Municipal General Investigation Section. “We received information from the public that resulted in us arresting two individuals wanted on warrants related to investigations into local theft and weapons-related offences. Reporting tips and suspicious activity helps police do our job, and ultimately results in safer neighbourhoods.”
Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services, the Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force and the North Battleford Provincial and Municipal General Investigation Sections assisted in the investigation.
According to a release issued Wednesday, Battlefords RCMP received a report on June 3 at approximately 6:10 p.m. that two males wanted on warrants were on Saulteaux First Nation.
Officers responded, located the males on a grid road and advised them to stop as they were under arrest, states the release, however the males ran away through a field. The officers followed them on foot and one was located and arrested shortly after.
Officers continued to search for the second male. On June 4, Battlefords RCMP received a report he was on Saulteaux First Nation and he was located and arrested at a residence shortly afterwards.
Andy Swiftwolfe, 22, of Moosomin First Nation was charged with one count of resisting arrest.
He was also arrested on warrants from Battlefords RCMP for the following charges: three counts of break and enter, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of flight from police officer, obstruct police officer, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, six counts of mischief under $5,000, three counts of theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of break-in instruments, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, fail to attend court and fail to comply with release order.
Grant Swiftwolfe, 27, of Moosomin First Nation was charged with one count of resisting arrest. He was also arrested on warrants from Battlefords RCMP for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and theft of truck.
