PRINCE ALBERT – Kaij Brass will stand trial on a second-degree murder charge in the death of his 13-month-old son.
A preliminary hearing was held in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday. The matter has now been sent to Prince Albert Court of King’s Bench to set a trial date. Brass also faces an assault charge and it was adjourned to Jan. 4, 2023, for plea in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Brass was charged in February. Two patrol officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute at 33 - 23 Street West in Prince Albert at approximately 5:44 a.m. on Feb. 10. PAPS say that the officers left the residence with the mother. Officers were called back to the home about five hours later and found the baby deceased. Brass was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
In March, the Prince Albert Police Chief suspended two officers from active duty pending the outcome of an independent investigation.
