Prairie North Regional Health Authority board met Oct. 27 for a regular meeting.
Board members approved a revised Continuous Safety and Quality Improvement (CSQI) Framework. The framework was originally developed in 2004 and was updated in 2007. The framework has been further revised to make it more comprehensive and integrated.
Vice-president of Corporate Services Irene Denis explained the framework sets out what CSQI is striving to accomplish and formalizes a reporting structure for the region's CSQI teams, projects, initiatives and committees. Overall, the CSQI Framework aims to align PNHR's efforts to improve quality, enhance safety, engage staff, and add value to all that the region does.
Board members have agreed to continue operation of the Robert Simard Social Detox Unit in Meadow Lake for the next three months, pending a re-evaluation of the service at that time. Board members were advised by vice-resident of Primary Health Services Glennys Uzelman that efforts are underway to increase utilization of the detox service and remove barriers to client admission. Meadow Lake physicians have indicated the service is valuable and should be continued.
PNHR is proceeding with purchase of a house in Turtleford to support physician recruitment/retention to the community where 24/7 acute care and emergency services are provided. A business case supporting the purchase was prepared and an agreement for purchase has been completed, pending approval from the PNRHA board and the Minister of Health.
The purchase will be funded through a bequest to support health care services in Turtleford. Purchase price is $120,000, with the region expecting to spend a further $45,000 from the bequest to cover renovations to the residence.
