Maidstone Museum Board charity poker event Jan. 14, once again produced an evening of fun and laughter.
Twenty contestants braved the cold and snow to participate and enjoy home cooked beef on a bun. They travelled from across the area to gather and the top five winners were evidence of this. Fifth went to Ernie Ludwig of Marsden, fourth to Steve Danychuk of Maidstone, third to Jayson Fontanilla of Lloydminster, second Keith Schwartz of Maidstone and first to savvy senior "Bud" Williams of Maidstone.
This month's event was dominated from start to finish by one of the favorite regular participants, 92 year young, Bud. Resident of the local lodge, Bud attends every event escorted by his caring granddaughters and even a great-granddaughter. He can be caught enjoying a ceasar, calling the raise with a casual "might as well," and laughing heartily at again another pot won.
The Maidstone event is unique in that the entrance fee is only $50. There is waitress service at the tables, and those who bust-out of the tournament early, often stay to be spectators and play cribbage or kaiser. To support a wonderful cause, enjoy good company, and maybe win a modest prize, join Bud and the gang Friday, Feb 25 at the Legion Hall in Maidstone. Registration is at 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. MST start.
