A staff member at the Meadow Lake Hospital has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Dr. Mandiangu Nsungu, a medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, declared an outbreak at the hospital the evening of May 5.

The health authority said the case was linked to community transmission and that to date, no patients have had symptoms of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 positive staff member and their close contacts are self-isolating and additional contact tracing is underway. For every single positive case of COVID-19, Public Health interviews the case to determine with whom they have had contact during their infectious period.

At this time there are no service disruptions at Meadow Lake Hospital, the authority said. Emergency department, emergency surgical and obstetrical services remain available. The authority said that is subject to change based on the ongoing risk assessment by public health and Meadow Lake Hospital management.
