Salaries for out of scope City of North Battleford employees are set to increase by four per cent this year.

That increase was approved by resolution at a Feb. 14 city council meeting. Out of scope salaries include those for mayor and council.

Mayor Ian Hamilton says the increase is comparable to "our sister cities throughout the province."

Council went ahead with the increase in spite of some reservations voiced byCouncillor Trent Houk, who suggested perhaps holding off on approving the increase until after labour negotiations were over.

Hamilton said he didn't believe he was influencing the labour negotiations to come by passing the increase, saying he believed it was "a different marketplace" for out of scope staff. He described the increase as "fair and just."
