Onion Lake man arrested for armed theft of keys and vehicle in Paradise Hill

Officers set up a spike belt to stop the stolen vehicle and the driver was arrested after a brief foot chase

PARADISE HILL — RCMP have arrested an Onion Lake man for stealing a vehicle after taking the keys from another person while armed.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Onion Lake and Turtleford RCMP received a report of a robbery at a business in Paradise Hill.

Investigation has determined that an armed male entered the business, approached an individual and took their vehicle keys. The male then exited the building and fled with the victim’s vehicle. The victim was not physically injured.

Police officers soon located the stolen vehicle on Highway 797 and activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment. The driver did not stop and continued driving west. Officers then set up a spike belt, which successfully stopped the vehicle. The driver was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Jesse Lewis. 21, of Onion Lake is charged with:

  • 1 count, robbery with restricted firearm, Section 344(a), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 355(a), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, fail to stop for peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code
  • 1 count, carry a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, Section 88, Criminal Code
  • 1 count, operate a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public, Section 320.13, Criminal Code

Lewis has appeared in court and has been remanded until his next appearance by video in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 4.
