The fundraising committee for the Credit Union CUPlex got more good news Monday thanks to a major contribution by Northland Power.
The Ontario-based company announced it was making a $750,000 contribution to the curling component of the facility, giving them naming rights for the life of that facility.
The announcement was made by James Temerty, founder of Northland Power, as part of the official sod-turning 小蓝视频 to mark the commencement of construction for the project. On hand were fundraising co-chairs Heath Gabruch and Rob Rongve as well as several other local dignitaries including Mayor Ian Hamilton of North Battleford and Mayor Chris Odishaw of Battleford.
Rongve said the contribution by Northland Power was more momentum for the CUPlex fundraising.
"We're just thrilled that Northland Power is going to be taking the naming rights for the curling facility," said Rongve, who said fundraisers are "going to be well on our way now to our overall goal of $10 million."
Northland "showed the class act company that they are," Rongve said, with their contribution, adding that they will be a huge part of the community for years to come.
Northland Power's contribution means naming rights have been settled for three of the four components of the multipurpose facility complex. The Battlefords and District Co-operative, Ltd. has acquired naming rights for the aquatic centre and the Rawlco radio stations have acquired the naming rights for what will be known as the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. Both contributions are for the life of the facility with the Co-op donating $750,000 and the Rawlco stations $1 million.
Earlier, Innovation Credit Union secured naming rights for the life of the entire facility for $1.5 million. Over $6.1 million in pledges have been committed in CUPlex fundraising already, with several other sponsorship opportunities still available for the entire facility.
