North Battleford council held its special meeting June 22 over Zoom.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - As expected, the City of North Battleford has voted in favor of applying for assistance under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.

The vote was unanimous at a special meeting of council held over the Zoom platform on Wednesday. The application is in connection to the one-in-100 year rainstorm on June 13 that dumped 100 mm of rain on the city.

At the special meeting Wednesday, City Manager Randy Patrick said they had spoken to the province after their rainfall, which he said had caused localized flooding and water in basements in the city. In speaking to the province, he said, the city learned it was eligible to apply to PDAP.

This approval by council of the PDAP application to the province is a first step. Patrick said that once it is approved by the province, residents will be able to put in applications for losses received for flood related issues. The city does plan to advertise to the public once PDAP funding is available.

Patrick said one of the things they want people to do is keep receipts and pictures, and to have talked to their insurance company first.

There will be available application forms at the city and online, however Patrick said nothing will happen until the province accepts the PDAP application.
