NIPAWIN, TISDALE — The towns of Nipawin and Tisdale have signed a mutual aid agreement to use their resources to assist each other in the event of a disaster.

Possible disasters could include forest fires, tornadoes, train derailments, floods, large vehicle accidents, or any other emergencies where assistance of another municipality’s services may be of use.

Barry Elliott, Nipawin’s administrator, called Tisdale a “welcome addition” to the list of municipalities the city has formed agreements with.

“Typically a municipality will respond, and if they find it’s more than they can handle then they reach out to the neighbours under the mutual aid understanding,” Elliott said.

“I think it’s a testament to the interests on a larger scope to making sure we have a security of support if needed.”

Other communities the Town of Nipawin holds mutual aid agreements with include the Village of White Fox, the Town of Choiceland, the Village of Smeaton, the Town of Carrot River, Town of Arborfield, R.M. of Nipawin, R.M. of Torch River, Pasquia Regional Park, Village of Codette, Village of Aylsham, Resort Village of Tobin Lake, R.M. of Arborfield, R.M. of Moose Range, Nipawin and District Regional Park, and the Village of Zenon Park.

The Village of Love is part of Nipawin’s disaster services agreement but not their fire services agreement.
