The Saskatchewan Municipal Board's Local Government Committee has granted the City of North Battleford's request to increase its debt limit from $31 million to $45 million.
The news was confirmed Monday night at North Battleford's monthly municipal services committee meeting. The extension is valid to Dec. 31, 2012, which means the City would need to reapply to extend the limit to 2013.
The debt limit application as made in 2010. City administration officials have said the extension was needed to meet the costs of a number of capital projects such as the expansion of Water Treatment Plant No. 1.
