Mental Health Assessment done on man accused of assault with axe

RCMP had issued a SaskAlert warning the public a dangerous man with an axe was at large

MEADOW LAKE – A court ordered Mental Health Assessment (MHA) has been completed on a man who prompted a SaskAlert warning the public a dangerous man with an axe was at large.

The MHA assessment on 29-year-old Jordan Andrew Scott Nelson was ordered in June. Nelson had an appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court again on Dec. 16 and the matter was adjourned until Jan. 6, 2022, to speak to the matter.

Nelson is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a weapon. The charges against him haven’t been proven in court.

Nelson has been in custody since his arrest in March. Police say that at about 1:20 p.m. on March 10 they received a report of a serious assault in a rural area of the R. M. of Meadow Lake and the victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Nelson allegedly fled the scene and less than an hour later Meadow Lake RCMP issued a SaskAlert warning people in the area that he was at large and considered dangerous.

Officers from multiple detachments and units descended on the area searching for Nelson. RCMP arrested him March 11 without incident.

Police say the victim and Nelson were known to each other.
