Maidstone RCMP thankful for reported tips during investigation

Tips from the public helped in arrests

MAIDSTONE - The Maidstone RCMP are extending a thank you to the public for their diligence and assisting police by reporting tips, which were a valuable asset in a recent investigation.

"This is a great example of watching out for your community and neighbours and to call the police if something is out of the ordinary," a release stated Wednesday.

The thank you has been issued in regard to an incident on Sept. 10.

At 8:10 a.m., Maidstone RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the town of Maidstone. Members attended and located a grey SUV with two occupants inside and a white car with one female. Investigation determined both vehicles had been reported stolen.

The female in the car, Gabrielle Bell, 24, from Onion Lake, was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of stolen property, identify fraud and breaching a release order.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the SUV. It left the area at a high rate of speed.

It was reported to police that a male allegedly filled up a jerry can at a store and left it on the sidewalk in Maidstone. The SUV then came and picked it up and continued to evade police. Steven VU, 27, from Maidstone was arrested and charged with breaching a release order and aid and abet in flight.

During the investigation, officers located the SUV passenger walking in the town of Maidstone. Jeffrey Gervais, 24, from Maidstone was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and obstruction.

The three attended court on Monday, Sept. 13. Gabrielle Bell was released while Steven VU and Jeffrey Gervais where adjourned. Gervais is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16. Steven VU is scheduled to appear Sept. 20.

The SUV was later recovered in Calgary, Alta. The investigation is ongoing.
