Lloydminster man facing charges in 2 provinces headed to trial

Jason Krysta was charged with weapons-related offences in Lloydminster and Red Deer.

LLOYDMINSTER – A trial for 31-year-old Jason Krysta is scheduled for May 2023 in Lloydminster Provincial Court.

In May he was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and two counts of failing to comply with release conditions.

In November 2021 Krysta was charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, break and enter to a home with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of threats to cause death, two counts of theft of a cell phone from two separate people with threats to use violence, theft of keys with threat to use violence, mischief by damaging a door, and failing to comply with a release order not to carry or have weapons except work tools while used at a job site, or utensils used while preparing or eating food.

Krysta also faces charges in Red Deer, Alta., including uttering threats, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, disobeying a court order, and failing to comply with conditions.

Those charges for Krysta stem from an incident in January after Red Deer RCMP responded to a call about a man who had been assaulted at a home. He received non-life-threatening injuries. A preliminary hearing was held in Red Deer Provincial Court in August and a trial date will now be set. He appears again in Red Deer court on Nov. 18.

The charges against Krysta haven’t been tested in court.
