Ernie and Lena Hoeppner of Blaine Lake were selected as Mutual Aid Heroes by MAX Canada for 2010.

MAX is a faith-based insurance company with mutual aid ministries that has served the Anabaptist/Brethren/Quaker community with insurance protection and mutual aid care. The MAX company offers insurance for home, farm, church, business and auto through an agency or broker and is not tied to any specific denomination. Mutual aid services provided in conjunction with insurance includes those of emotional, spiritual and financial support. Premiums paid into MAX ultimately serve and stay in the church and community groups it insures.

The ownership of MAX is guaranteed through its co-operative structure. Relationships are built on trust, love, integrity and care to enable and build community. MAX invites all persons of faith, regardless of denominational membership, who share our values of community and compassion to become part of the MAX community, states the website.

Every year, MAX Canada issues two certificates, one to a congregation and one to an agent/broker who exhibit great sensitivity to mutual aid needs. The Hoeppners, over the years, have shared a number of mutual aid needs of their clients and have been diligent in following up on interventions.

The certificates provide a positive affirmation of those who have unselfishly practised mutual aid.

"Given this is the year you are stepping out of your brokerage business, we felt it was fitting and past due to honour you as Mutual Aid Heroes, "says Nelson Scheifele, director of Mutual Aid Ministries and Constutuency Relations for MAX Canada Insurance Company.

The Hoeppners recently sold their Blaine Lake Insurance business to Lakeview Insurance Brokers.
