Swimming at the pool is a fun summertime activity for Wilkie and area residents.

WILKIE — Wilkie's swimming pool, built in 1972, is “in pretty rough condition and on its last leg,” according to Recreation Director Lori Fenrich, who says fundraising for a replacement is active.

“At the start of every season, we keep our fingers crossed that everything would work out and run smoothly, ” she says.

The major problem with the present pool is the cement, which is cracking and showing its age.

“There are only so many Band-Aid solutions we can use from year to year,” says Fenrich.

She says research of other communities who have replaced swimming pools indicates the community is looking at a goal of more than $2 million for the project.

In the latest fundraising effort, the Rislings will host the Louisiana Hayride Nov. 25 at the Saskcan Community Centre Dance Hall. Other events have been undertaken by the Wilkie and District Recreation Board in conjunction with town council over the past year, and more are in the works.

Organizers are looking at various ideas and any suggestions from the public are welcome. Call Fenrich at 306-843-2692 if you have something to suggest.

Another option that is 小蓝视频 investigated is corporate sponsorship.

“The pool is an important addition to any community and draws in people who see Wilkie has a place with good schools, a newly renovated community centre, regional park, golf course and other features that can make it an excellent place to work, play and raise a family,” says Mayor David Ziegler.

“It is essential that we do everything to find a way to raise the necessary monies to build a new pool.”
