Three individuals facing charges in a treaty land entitlement fraud case will see their matters return to provincial court Sept. 22.
Chief Clarence Stone, as well as Clifford Spyglass and Gerald Bird are all charged with stealing from and defrauding Mosquito First Nation of over $5,000 during 2002. Spyglass and Bird also face breach of trust charges, among others.
Bird was present Sept. 8 when the case came up before Judge David Kaiser in North Battleford court. The other two accused individuals were not in attendance.
Counsel for all three individuals agreed to set the matter over to Sept. 22. No pleas have been entered yet but lawyers for those accused indicated discussions are still ongoing with the prosecutors. Counsel for Stone indicated his client was likely to plead "not guilty."
Two other individuals, Alphonse Moosomin and Eldon Starchief, pleaded guilty in August to breach of trust charges arising out of the same case. They are due back in court for sentencing in October.
