Battlefords Tribal Council has acquired the naming rights to the field house component of the Credit Union CUPlex, and has handed over its first installment of $250,000 towards the facility.

The cheque was presented Nov. 4 by BTC's Randy Wallace and Wayne Semaganis to fundraising co-chairs Heath Gabruch and Rob Rongve at Gold Ridge Centre, where BTC officials provided an update of their long-range plans for development at Gold Eagle Lodge and the surrounding area.

City Manager Jim Toye confirmed Monday it is his understanding BTC signed an agreement with the fundraising committee for a $750,000 donation, which would cover the naming rights for the facility. The cheque presentation last Thursday represents the first installment, Toye said.

"The second payment of $250,000 will be when the steel frame for the building is up," said Toye. The last payment for $250,000 will be when the building is 80 per cent complete.

The announcement now means naming rights have now been finalized for all four components of the CUplex. Northwest Radio Partnership/Rawlco Radio has naming rights to the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, Battlefords and District Co-op has the rights for the aquatic centre and Northland Power has the naming rights for the curling facility.

Toye says the latest cheque presentation is more good news for the project. Before this latest donation, the fundraising committee had raised a total of $7.5 million in pledges.

"The fundraising committee is inching closer towards their $10 million goal," said Toye.
