A fire at the Bready School playground was one of several incidents to keep emergency and fire crews busy over the holiday weekend.
According to North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services, the playground incident happened June 30 around 8:30 p.m. The fire involved playground wood chips and one section of equipment at the playground, which received a small amount of damage. The fire department says the fire burned in the chips before moving towards the equipment.
One fire engine and three crews were on the scene for about 20 minutes. WPD Ambulance and the RCMP were on the scene. As well, neighbours aided in controlling the fire with portable fire extinguishers. There were no injuries.
Also on June 30, fire crews dealt with a situation involving a tree at the rear of 1351 - 109th St. touching power transmission lines and creating some arcing. The fire department was on the scene for 43 minutes. SaskPower responded to the situation and said they would trim the tree the following day.
July 1, fire crews were busy again putting out a dumpster fire on the 600 block of 110th St. One fire engine with three personnel were on the scene for about 10 minutes and damage was considered minor.
July 2, two fire engines with four personnel responded to a dryer fire at 1652 - 101st St. The damage was confined to contents of the dryer. WPD Ambulance and the RCMP were also on the scene.
July 3, crews responded to a passenger vehicle fire in an alley in the 1700 block of 97th Street that spread to a power pole.
Five fire personnel were on the scene along with WPD Ambulance, the RCMP and SaskPower. Total time on the scene to deal with the fire was an hour and 42 minutes.
