F.E. Holliday incident still on councillors minds

The incident that shut down F.E. Holliday water treatment plant and sent two workers to hospital was still on councillors' minds at Monday's North Battleford municipal services meeting.

The incident that shut down F.E. Holliday water treatment plant and sent two workers to hospital was still on councillors' minds at Monday's North Battleford municipal services meeting.

Mayor Ian Hamilton and other councillors wanted an update on the condition of the two individuals hurt in the Jan. 10 incident.

City Manager Jim Toye reported one of the workers had been released from Battlefords Union Hospital, while the other was transferred to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and then to St. Paul's Hospital to the burn unit there.

"There was no life-threatening situation", Toye said, but the injured worker did suffer "some burns to his body." Mayor Hamilton expressed his best wishes to the families of the injured wrokers.

The incident occurred while the contractors were repairing equipment inside the plant, Toye said.

Arcing damaged a transformer and substation outside the facility. Once SaskPower realized the transformer was the issue, they replaced it and were able to power up F.E. Holliday, Toye said.
