Doctor update dominates meeting

An update on the various doctors working within North Saskatchewan River Municipal Health Holdings dominated a regular meeting of the organization's board Nov. 15 at Riverside Health Complex in Turtleford Dr.

Dr. Madaza has returned to Ireland to attempt to finalize documentation required for immigration. She reports she is hoping to have processes finalized in the next few weeks and to be able to start her practice right away under the old assessment rules. If not, she will have to wait for the next available session under the new program, which would be in May.

Dr. Gohil reports she will be leaving shortly after Christmas. The board expressed thanks to Dr. Gohil for her service to the community over the last four years and wished her the best in her new position in Ontario.

A farewell tea will be held at Riverside Health Complex.

Dr. Shoaib is taking holidays from Dec. 18 to Jan. 2. He has also agreed to sign a six-month extension of his contract that experies Dec. 3.

"We are happy that Dr. Shoaib and his family have chosen to remain a part of our community for a while longer," a press release states.

Gary Nolin of Prairie North Health Region gave a report on the clinic statistics for the Turtleford and Edam facilities. He explained the purpose of the statistics and reviewed them with the board. He also answered questions regarding nurse practitioners within the region and outlined PNHR policy on recruitment and incentives for nurse practitioners in the primary care sites.

The Lakeland Community Health Advisory Network is hosting an awareness event Nov. 27 at St. Walburg Elks Hall. There will be speakers on The Hidden Danger of Belly Fat, Do I have the Blues or Am I Clinically Depressed and Helping to Understand Alzheimer's. There will also be booths set up by various health care professionals and Health Holdings to provide information to the public. There will be a lunch provided and a registration fee for the event.

Clinics will be closed for the holidays as follows: Dec. 24, Dec. 27, Dec. 31. Clinics will be open until noon Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.
