Oasis Personal Care Home in Speers held its annual Christmas party Dec. 19 with over 60 guests in attendance.
Musical entertainment was provided by Howard Bulmer, Phyllis Cunningham, Norm and Colleen Wicks, and April Lafreniere. Del Miller entertained with several readings and jokes.
A personal care home is a place that provides an adult with accommodation, meals and supervision and/or assistance with personal care on a daily basis, it is not a nursing home. It is an important, but often missed, aspect of the residential care system for the aging population. Personal care homes are privately owned and operated but are licensed and monitored by Saskatchewan Health.
Oasis Personal Care Home in Speers has been providing quality personal care and residency for adults since 1993. Sheila and Delbert Miller own and operate the 4,000 square foot wheelchair accessible facility which provides clean, well maintained modern living quarters for the residents. Located within the community of Speers, but on an acreage, provides opportunity for the Millers to extend activities outdoors.
Oasis can provide occupancy for 10 residents requiring moderate personal care assistance. Bedrooms, common area, quiet sitting rooms and television rooms are located within the main structure. Residents enjoy their meals and snacks in a spacious dining area. Puzzles, books, magazines, games, telephone and television are always available for residents to use.
Licensed under the Personal Care Homes Act, Oasis Personal Care Home undergoes annual public health, fire and sprinkler inspections. Keeping the line of communication open between resident and staff is important to the Millers. Each room is equipped with bedside intercom system enabling residents to call for assistance if required. Door alarms provide a added safety feature.
