Change is coming at the North Battleford Fire Hall with the retirement of deputy fire chief Bryan Beach Friday.

North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services is moving swiftly to name Beach's replacement. The new Deputy Chief of Operations will be Robin Tomaz, who is a 10-year veteran of the fire department. He also previously worked as an instructor at Fire ETC in Vermilion, Alta.

According to a press release from fire chief Pat MacIsaac, Tomaz began his orientation to his new duties Aug. 3.

The Deputy Fire Chief of Operations works under the direction of the Fire Chief, with the core responsibilities of fire suppression, fleet management, staff development, operations and quality assurance. The Deputy Fire Chief is also accountable to the fire chief and assumes full authority and responsibility in his absence.

Beach leaves after 28 years serving and protecting the people of North Battleford. He and wife Kathy are planning to retire to Dryden, Ont.

In a statement MacIsaac praised Beach for his work, saying his "expertise, dedication and tenacity were instrumental in making the NBFES one of, if not the most, disciplined and skilled fire departments in the province."
