NIPAWIN — After six years serving as Nipawin’s chief administrative officer, Barry Elliott has announced his resignation from the role.
He will become the administrator for the Town of Maple Creek.
With the move, Elliott said both he and his spouse, Carmen Drapeau, will be leaving the community.
In a letter to council on Jan. 28, Elliott described the support and encouragement in the role as Nipawin’s administrator to be “unparalleled.”
“This decision to leave was an extremely difficult one for me to make,” he said.
“It certainly caused Carmen and me much soul searching and reflection about our time in Nipawin. In the end, I determined that, given the opportunity presented in Maple Creek coupled with the opportunity to be located closer to family, now is an appropriate time to leave.”
Recruitment for a replacement is underway with his last day in office to take place on April 24.
Looking back, Elliott told the East Central Recorder that some of the highlights that made him proud in the role include the new recreation opportunities, improvements to public works services and the behind the scenes improvements such as bringing policies and bylaws up-to-date.
“The water treatment plant, I was pleased to be part of that,” he said. “It wasn’t my doing but I was pleased to be part of that getting done, it’s a huge opportunity for the community and certainly the area.”
