Toopy and Binoo are taking their show on the road all the way to North Battleford. The much-loved Canadian cartoon that debuted in 2006 has become a favourite with kids around the world and its popularity hasn't waned a decade on.
Now, Toopy and Binoo: Fun and Games finds Toopy the mouse and his plush cat best friend Binoo in an interactive and engaging environment with their audience. The stage show's artistic director Patti Caplette says they will engage the audience through games, with Toopy and Binoo trying to find the best game to play and audiences will be encouraged to play along with suggestions or answering questions. Caplette says fans of the cartoon can expect a total reflection of the characters they love and some surprises too.
"There's very unexpected moments, (like when) we go under water to try to cure Binoo's hiccups and we find a singing school of fish."
Much of the show is musical and Caplette notes the songs are all new originals for Fun and Games specifically, although one feature carrying over from the cartoon fans will notice is the voice of Frank Meschkuleit, who recorded his role of Toopy for the stage show.
Caplette says audiences can expect "a big bang for the buck" from the 70-minute show and if you have young kids they'd probably agree. Toopy and Binoo: Fun and Games will be held at the Dekker Centre on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. with tickets going for $26.50.
