REGINA - A photo taken on Jackfish Lake has won an honourable mention in a provincial photo contest.
Tourism Saskatchewan announced the winning submissions for the 2021 ExploreSask Photo Contest recently. The competition, launched in June, received over 6,800 entries by the September 15 deadline.
A photo by Justin Hauber of Lloydminster won an honourable mention in the "people" category.
Ultimately, the grand prize was awarded to photographer Herry Himanshu of Regina, who entered with an elegant overhead shot of a tiny, treed island surrounded by blue-green lake waters and a small white boat in the nearby depths.
On the Tourism Saskatchewan website, it was said: “Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people travel and participate in activities, the number and variety of photographs submitted to the contest this year was impressive. The images highlight the many opportunities available for residents to enjoy the outdoors and discover new experiences in the province. The stunning photographs capture the province’s natural beauty and dynamic spirit – featuring extraordinary landscapes, diverse experiences, magnificent wildlife and the unique character of Saskatchewan people.”
Saskatchewan photographers of all ages and abilities were invited to submit photos in their choice of six featured categories including: prairie, places, people, woods, water, and wildlife. In addition to winning the grand prize, Himanshu’s photo was triumphant in the "water" category.
Along with the winners of each category a selection of honourable mentions were chosen. All winning entries can be viewed at the Tourism Saskatchewan website at: .
