Taking a Christmas trip to Hawaii were Ben, Helen and Daniel Fields from Chillwack, B.C., Edna Carnahan, Jim and Pat Carnahan and Gertrude Sherman.
Last Christmas the group decided they would go together to Maui, and spent a year of suspense. They had two weeks to explore. They took in a whale watching aquarium, undersea submarine adventure and a luau. The girls can sure make those grass skirts twirl. The road to Hana took three and a half hours to go 35 miles one way it is so curvy. There was a bird sanctuary with parrots performing. The surf was up on an ocean area, we watched people ride the waves. Another day we went up to the top of the mountain to where there are craters created by volcanic eruptions many years ago. This road was scenic and curvy, miles and miles of lava. It must have been quite a sight when this was happening. Also enjoyed was swimming in the ocean. The group was fortunate to be in condos across from the beach so swimming happened most days. Daniel Fields and Gertrude wore life jackets and there were boogie boards to use. All in all it was a trip of a lifetime. Flowering trees and hedges were everywhere. The day after the group returned home Gertrude's sister-in-law, Helen (Sherman) Nutbrown Murdock of Lloydminster, passed away. She is buried at Fielding.
