The Neilburg School Community Council hosted a Harvest Hoedown Oct. 6.
It was a great evening, complete with freshly roasted corn, hot dogs, square dancing (presented by the Grade 3s and 4s), country songs (presented by the Grade 5s and 6s), songs to encourage acceptance of diversity (presented by the Grade 1s and 2s), and fall poems (presented by the kindergarten class).
It also included old-fashioned children's games like three-legged races, wheelbarrow races and a tug-of-war. The children, and some adults, enjoyed the bouncy castle immensely. Many were attired in Western garb.
Donations at the door, which will be used to purchase school supplies for students in Kenya, totalled $461.72.
Much appreciation to the SCC for hosting this fun and entertaining community event and working all evening to make it possible. Teachers, Mr. Gieni and Mr. Volk cooked corn on barbecues all evening and Mr. Worman (along with the Grade 10s and 12s) brought the picnic tables into the school and returned them after the event. Yeehaw!
