The Mennonite Church of God in Christ held their annual Vacation Bible School for children ages five through twelve, July 18 to 22. Class 1 was taught by Joni Kuepfer from Oklahoma, with Shelly Thiessen as her assistant. Kristen Mazelin from Missouri taught Class 2, with Krista Loewen as her helper. Class 3 was led by Kelly Miniger of Alabama, with Lauren Wiebe as her helper. The older children, Class 4, were taught by Kalie Dueck and Jacey Loetkeman. Forty-four children attended the VBS. There was a closing program with songs and recitations Friday evening. Refreshments were served in the Fellowship Hall at the close of the meeting. An offering was also taken, at the VBS, to assist a medically fragile young girl from the Saskatoon area.
Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Catharine Elizabeth Scott, who passed away Aug. 11 at the age of 90. A memorial service was conducted for Catharine from the Marsden Community Hall Aug. 16, with Pastor Mel Letkeman officiating. The eulogy was given by Doug Scott and Shelly McMann, and an additional tribute was given by her grandchildren. The hymns were Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. Marcie Park was the organist. The Marsden Community Choir was also in attendance. The interment was in the Brady Cemetery. Catharine will be sadly missed by: her three sons, Stuart Scott; Greg (Cecile) Scott and Doug Scott; six grandchildren, Christa, Tyler, Joel, Alicia, Taegan and Danae; four great-grandchildren: Jordan, Nicole, Jacelyn and Layla; sister Elsie Hammond; brothers Roy Biensch, Harold Biensch and Bob Biensch; as well as numerous other relatives. Donations in memory of Catharine can be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
A come and go tea was held Aug. 13 in the Neilburg Seniors' Centre to celebrate Tom Poppleton's 65th birthday. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all who attended this event.
A group of youngsters gathered in the Marsden Community Hall to participate in the Mobile Playground, Aug. 5. Children registered and workers came and entertained them from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dana Berrecloth was the guest of honour at a bridal shower in the Cut Knife Seniors' Centre, Aug. 13. Dana, who is the daughter of Lance and Sherrie Berrecloth, will soon marry Eric Ducherer, the son of Ernie and Cathy Ducherer of Neilburg. Congratulations to you both.
A farewell party (a bonfire and social evening) was held to bid good-bye to three families from the Neilburg area who have recently moved away. The event was held at Kurt and Chelsea Smith's farm and honoured Bret and Deb Elchyson and family, who have relocated to Whitecourt, Alta. Also recognized at the event were Lars and Laurie Gustafsson and their boys, now residing in Lloydminster; and Kale and Sherin Warkentin and family, who have recently moved to Camrose, Alta.
Neilburg also bids a fond farewell to Tyler and Carrie Etson and family who moved to Estevan over the summer.
