Artist Margaret Bremner recently made her second annual visit to Maymont Central School.
She provided several sessions in which she instructed Grades 2 through 8 in the techniques of Zentangle, an activity which allows everyone to be an artist. Students were fully engaged in the process of black-on-white intricate design making, with some excellent results. Margaret is a fully certified and well-known Saskatchewan Zentangle instructor. She holds workshops for adults as well, and her work has been shown in many galleries.
Maymont School held its annual Christmas concert, Dec. 19. It was a lovely evening and we had a wonderful turnout for the concert. The school choir sang two songs to open the show. Mr. Lockwood was MC for the evening. The main production was Survival Santa performed by the kindergarten to Grade 6 classes. Santa is running out of money and does not think that he will be able to finish the toys in time for Christmas. The elves suggest that Santa and Rudolph go on the show Survivor to try and win a million dollars. The performance was full of contests, songs, lummi-stick performance, choral speaking and dancing. The evening finished with a visit from Santa Claus who handed out treats. The school would like to thank everyone who donated towards the treat bags.
The travel club made their raffle draws. The $50 winner was Kendra Gillatt and the winner of the lovely gift basket was Berniece Ducharme.
The Grade 11 and 12 biology class set up endangered animal displays in the gym Jan. 12. They invited elementary students to walk around and view the displays. Many of them had video presentations, charts, and activities for the students about their animal. One group even gave away a stuffed Bengal tiger. There were displays about the blue whale, Vancouver marmot, giant panda and many more. They were very well done and the elementary students enjoyed them very much.
Midterm exams will be written between Jan. 24 and 27. The new semester will begin Jan. 30.
The annual Grades 4 to 12 ski trip to Table Mountain will be held Feb. 1. It sounds like the weather will be excellent.
